Opportunity for Juniors who Love Chemistry

The Welch Summer Science Program is designed for Texas students finishing their junior year in HS who are interested in pursuing research in chemistry during the summer. There are several locations throughout the state of Texas. Students are residents at the university where they're assigned. The website is http://www.utexas.edu/research/chemed/lagowski/WSSP/ and all the information on the application process, including printable applications, is available there.

The deadline for applying is February 28, 2008. The dates for the program for this year are June 8-July 12, 2008.

I have had students of mine attend this in the past and said it was an amazing and enriching experience. Let me know if you want to go and I'll write you a teacher recommendation.

Remember that the due date for you to turn in your binder has been moved to this WEDNESDAY. This ONLY applies to 3rd and 4th hour.

Please bring all of your old tests with you to class on Friday for an opportunity for an extra credit grade.

Semster Test Exemptions

The districts semester test exemption policy can be found here.

If you are exempt from the semester test, please remember that you have the OPTION of taking it to improve your grade. If the semester test does not improve your grade, then I will not count it. However, if you are not exempt you must take the test, and I must count it.

The semester test is comprehensive, please study all of your old tests to help you prepare for the exam.

We have test over Kinetics on Thursday. If you have finished your electronic homework and your extra book work. You can try some practice quizzes at Prentice Hall. Click homework 2, homework 3, and homework 4 for some good practice questions.

Pre-AP Chemistry

Be sure to wear real shoes to class on Tuesday or Wednesday as we will be doing a lab. We are done taking notes over Chapter 8. You will receive a review in class soon (if you haven't already) over Chapter 8. We will be going to the library on Thursday or Friday and the Chapter 8 test will be on next Monday or Tuesday.

Regular Chemistry

We will be continuing our study over naming compounds on Wednesday and will finish up our "All Compound WS". On Friday I will give you your review and we will spend about half the period on Friday at the Library to work on our science fair projects. If you have yet to turn in your research plan, this is the final day they will be accepted or you will lose points off your next spiral check. The list posted below is up-to-date.

Fun in the Lab

Progress Reports

Progress report are being sent out today and tomorrow. Please get them signed for bonus points.

AP Chemistry

Be sure that is you are going to take the make-up thermochemistry quiz, that you come by tomorrow (Tuesday). See your friend Monica working on the quiz.

Also, please wear lab-safe shoes tomorrow.

Over the break, write up your lab and work on your e-homework.

AP Chemistry

Remember if you are going to take a make-up thermo quiz, to add 10 bonus points to your test, it has to be done by Tuesday after school.
